Early Summer 2010

Well it's nice to have our first two shows of the season successfully behind us! The CC/ADA show in Claresholm is always a friendly fun show and this year, they had excellent weather too! Marion and Pinga went Reserve Champion at third level and dipped their toes into fourth level, with a first time score of 65% (goodbye third level!!). Godolphin did well at fourth level earning a couple of seconds, Sandi and Afire put together numerous solid tests at second level as did Jean Helen and King at fourth level. Jean Helen also debuted her new home-bred youngster, Dublin, at training level scoring as high as 69%! Leslie and Gardez debuted at first level and lucky for us, Leslie brought her motor home which serves nicely as 'the lounge'!

The Kamloops show with judges, Ali Buchanan and Sheila Skeene may be a small show but the competition was excellent! It was very nice to see Joni-Lynn Peters and Chelsea Balkan ride their advanced level Friesiens! Godolphin won all 4 of his fourth level tests with his best scores to date. Sandi and Afire continued their solid second level rides with 3 wins and again, her best scores to date. Jean-Helen and King showed good improvement in their fourth level tests and Jean's young horse Dublin settled down and put in solid tests at training level with scores hovering around 70%. Jean and Dublin won the Show Championship on day two!! Sandy Sheaves rode Gamine at training level and after the first day 'nerves' (Sandy's been away from the show scene for some time) she laid down two solid scores!

Getting ready for the Betty Wells clinic now July 9-12th with Godolphin, Pinga and Fire held at Kenhold Farm in Cochrane, then off to the Stampede with Charlie and Summer July 13-15th, go Summer!!

Happy riding!

Spring 2010

We are happy to announce that the 21 year old, advanced level, KWPN gelding 'Harmony' has moved to Kamloops, B.C. to be a school master for Leanne Pinniuck of Stone Hill Farm.

The Deerfield crew headed west to the Salmon Arm Dressage Show in May with one second level, one third level and two fourth level horses. A great time was had by all, we highly recommend this show!

Congratulations to Dianna Gress and Remeron W for winning Reserve Champion, Adult Amateur, First Level, at the 2010 Carrots & Cocktails Series!

Winter 2010

We are well into the freezing temperatures of winter and many days, thawing out water troughs and dressing warm enough to move and feed horses around seems to take precedent above all other things. The good news is that it never gets terribly cold in the insulated indoor arena (thanks goodness), but one still has to get their head around it!

We are happy to report that Pinga & Marion, Gardez & Leslie, Affire & Sandi, and Godolphin and myself, all received Dressage Canada Awards for the 2009 competition season. Way to go all!

Congratulations to daughter Tory! Tory has been away from showing the last couple of years as she was living in Burnaby, B.C. and going to school to become a 3D artist. She graduated from school in early 2009, then went on, to work in special effects on the Clint Eastwood movie 'Invictus'! She's hoping to be settled enough in the near future to start riding seriously again. (hope she doesn't want her old horse back – I'm starting to like him!).
